The Influence of Serious Leisure on the Ego-Integrity among older Adults and the Moderating Effect of Leisure Constraints

Abstract

|
Focusing on the moderating effects of leisure constraints of the relationship between serious leisure and old age self- integration. The survey was answered by 360 seniors, age 65 and above, receiving services from a Senior Leisure Welfare Facility in Busan. The analysis methods used are as follows: the multiple regression analysis to verify the main effect relationship, the hierarchical regression analysis to verify the moderating effect and Two-way ANOVA to confirm the slope of the graph. The following is the summary of the result. First, the model suitability and the significance of R² variation(p<.001) was verified in terms of Serious Leisure and Ego Integrity, and Serious Leisure was verified as the influence variable(β=.537, p<.001) in the effect relationship between Serious Leisure and Ego Integrity when the education and the subjective recognition of health were controlled. Second, the relationship between Serious Leisure and Ego Integrity ? the main effect relationship ? verified the moderating effect of leisure constraints. The moderating effect was verified by the regression coefficients: education(β=.072, p<.01), Serious Leisure(β=.025, p<.001) and significance of leisure constraints(β=.156, p<.01) and the importance of the interaction term(β=.225, p<.05). It is confirmed that the group with more leisure constraints in the slope of moderating effect has greater difference in Serious Leisure and Ego Integrity compared to the group with less leisure constraints. Verification of the moderating effect of the subordinate factors showed the moderating effect of the sociological leisure constraints(β=.177, p<.05) and personal leisure constraints factor(β=.145, p<.05). Based on the result, this study presented both policies and practical ways to enhance the leisure & welfare of the seniors in terms of the effective Ego Integrity.
